The cone of a redwood tree needs to be exposed to fire to open and grow. Once established, redwoods can live for thousands of years—an eternity compared to a human lifespan. Fire is the only way to continue their cycle.

Through the fire of the direct burnout method, this cone has instead been transformed into a different eternal existence. The leaf has been melted down and re-entered the cycle of casting.
